چکیده
Two-photon interference is a fundamental quantum optics effect with numerous applications in information science. Here, we study two-photon multiple transverse-spatial modes along single beam-path. Besides implementing the analog of Hong-Ou-Mandel using two-dimensional spatial-mode splitter, extend scheme to observe coalescence and anticoalescence different three- four-dimensional multiports. The operation within spatial modes, beam path, lifts requirement for interferometric stability opens up new pathways linear optical networks complex tasks.

Engineering two-photon high-dimensional states through quantum interference
Many protocols in quantum science, for example, linear optical quantum computing, require access to large-scale entangled quantum states. Such systems can be realized through many-particle qubits, but this approach often suffers from scalability problems. An alternative strategy is to consider a lesser number of particles that exist in high-dimensional states. The spatial modes of light are one...
متن کاملQuantum effects in one-photon and two-photon interference
Although interference is intrinsically a classical wave phenomenon, the superposition principle which underlies all interference is also at the heart of quantum mechanics. Feynman has referred to interference as really ‘‘the only mystery’’ of quantum mechanics. Furthermore, in some interference experiments we encounter the idea of quantum entanglement, which has also been described as really th...
متن کاملTheory of two-photon interference
The interference effects that can be observed in the two output arms of a lossless beam splitter are calculated for incident light in the form of a photon-pair excitation in the two input arms. The output state that occurs when the photon pair is excited in a single input arm resembles that expected for independent classical particles, whereas quantum interference effects occur when the photon ...
متن کاملTwo-Photon Interference without Bunching Two Photons
We report an interference experiment in which the two-photon entangled state interference cannot be pictured in terms of the overlap and bunching of two individual photons on a beamsplitter. We also demonstrate that two-photon interference, or photon bunching effect on a beamsplitter, does not occur if the two-photon Feynman amplitudes are distinguishable, even though individual photons do over...

Integrated quantum optics has the potential to markedly reduce the footprint and resource requirements of quantum information processing systems, but its practical implementation demands broader utilization of the available degrees of freedom within the optical field. To date, integrated photonic quantum systems have primarily relied on path encoding. However, in the classical regime, the trans...
